LIST: Stores in Georgia adjusting hours, add senior hours due to coronavirus

GEORGIA — Stores across the country are adjusting their store hours to accommodate both customers and staff as they work to restock and sanitize their businesses. Here is an ongoing list of stores that are adjusting their hours. The list includes special hours for people over the age of 60, who are most vulnerable to catching the coronavirus.

As always, it is best to check your local store locations to see if they are taking part in the initiatives.

ALDI: Aldi stores across the country will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Some stores may have limited hours to accommodate restocking and cleaning.

Costco: Costcos will set aside special shopping hours for senior customers every Tuesday and Thursday. Those hours from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. are open to customers 60 and older.

Dollar General: Dollar General is opening its stores to senior citizens only for the first hour. The stores will also close early but those times vary by location.

Fresh Market: All stores will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. Fresh Market will allow seniors to shop for the store’s first open hour Monday through Friday.

Home Depot: The Home Depot stores will now close daily at 6 p.m. The opening hours will not change.

Kroger: Kroger’s Atlanta division, which includes Georgia, Eastern Alabama and South Carolina, announced it is shifting store hours across the region to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Kroger is also hiring more people for its stores. The stores added a hour from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. for seniors to shop. Stores now are limiting one person per 120 square feet.

Lidl: The three Lidl locations in metro Atlanta will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice.

Publix: Publix has adjusted its store hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Publix announced it will designate Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., as senior shopping hours for customers age 65 and over. This change includes opening the pharmacy early.

Sam’s Club: Sam’s Club will be open from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday, Stores will open early every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. for seniors and those with disabilities and compromised immune systems. The shopping hours include the pharmacy and optical centers. They will also offer a “Shop from Your Car” service for anyone who is at risk. From a designated parking location, members in need can place their order from their car, and a Sam’s Club associate will grab the items on the list.

Target: Target will close nightly at 9 p.m. to give time for cleaning and restocking. Stores will reserve the first hour of shopping every Wednesday for seniors and guests who have health issues.

Tom Thumb: Tom Thumb stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday for seniors and others considered at risk.

Trader Joe’s: Locations in metro Atlanta will remain open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Trader Joe’s will have a seniors only line for the first hour that stores are open.

Walgreens: Walgreens locations, including the 24-hour ones, will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, the pharmacy drive-thru will remain open 24 hours at the 24-hour locations. Walgreens opens an hour early every Tuesday for senior shoppers and caregivers only.

Walmart: Stores will be open from 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. until further notice. The retail chain also hosts a senior shopping hour every Tuesday. This will start one hour before stores open.

Wayfield Foods: The local Atlanta markets will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wayfield says it will be opening all locations at 7 a.m. for seniors first responders on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Whole Foods: Whole Foods began opening its first hour to shoppers ages 60 and older. Whole Foods say the opening hours will vary by location.
