Las Vegas is the number 1 travel destination in the U.S.

When it comes to Thanksgiving, American travelers choose to get away from the leaves for bright lights and sandy beaches.

Based on hotel data from expedia.com, Las Vegas was the number one destination among American tourists last year.

If you're planning to travel abroad, we have an important warning for you. Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Nicole Carr traveled to Mexico where tourists who've fallen ill have been hit with shocking medical bills. We go undercover and explain what you need to know to protect yourself, Monday on Channel 2 Action News at 6 p.m.

Travelers also checked into Orlando, San Francisco, Anaheim, Honolulu and Chicago.

The ones who do travel out of the country, just go further south to Mexico and the Caribbean. Cancun, Punta Cana and Playa de Carmen all made the list.
