In Carrollton, the sheriff’s office is setting up a shelter for people who may need it.

“We’ve got a fleet of about ten Humvees with winches available for us. We also have chainsaws, tow straps, chains, things of that nature,” Emergency Management Director Craig Dodson told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is not only preparing to bring hurricane help if needed out to citizens but also to welcome citizens to shelter at the sheriff’s office.

“We’ll open up tonight, and we’ll stay open during the duration of the storm,” Dodson said.

“This is our training facility for the sheriff’s office,” Deputy Emergency Management Director Brandon Wiggins said.

“We’ll move these tables and chairs out. We will have the TV, showing the current conditions and the watches and warnings. This will kind of be the hangout area,” he said.

“This will be our sleeping area. We’ll take the blue mats. We’ll have them laid out on the floor, folks can bring their pillows. We are pet friendly,” Wiggins said.

“This is a use of force lab that we train in. But this is where we’ll keep the pets because there’s a lot of people that will not come and leave a pet at home,” Dodson said.

Not far away, A Georgia State Trooper’s car is a toolbox for taking care of trouble.

These are a roadside flare, rifle, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, jack for changing tires, tools for investigating crashes, defibrillator that can be a lifesaver.

The Georgia State Patrol has a new tool, about 80 chainsaws spread across the state that troopers can carry going into storm situations for clearing trees or other debris like troopers may encounter this weekend depending on how Hurricane Isaias hits Georgia.

Trooper Camden Taylor says fellow troopers at the Villa Rica post have already put a chainsaw to use in this year’s winter weather

“One of the reasons I wanted to join was in order to help so us having more tools to expand our ability to serve the public is a big deal to me,” he said.
