Now, she’s suing the PTSA and is expected to face PTSA board members in a Cobb County courtroom Monday morning.
Kell High School parent Karman Jacobo said the dispute began in the spring when the PTSA needed help planning the senior luncheon.
“I volunteered, paid for the things, got the senior luncheon done, submitted the receipts for the expenses,” Jacobo said.
Jacobo showed Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers receipts from Sam’s Club, Amazon and a restaurant that catered the event.
“I spent $2400-and some change,” she said.
Jacobo said she eventually received a check in July for less than half of what she had spent.
“I then emailed and asked why the check was that amount. She said oh that’s what we had left over after the baccalaureate,” Jacobo said. “Then she said but do not cash the check because we had to close the account.”
Jacobo said the check bounced.
“I sent them notice about the bounced check, gave them a deadline to replace it, and nobody responded,” she said.

Months later, Jacobo said she is still trying to get the money she was owed. She ultimately served subpoenas to PTSA board members, including the school principal.
“You didn’t give me a choice,” Jacobo said.
Rogers reached out to the Cobb County School District, which said the PTSA is a separate entity from the school district.
Rogers also called and emailed the PTSA presidents and treasurer earlier this week but had not received a response.
Then Thursday, Jacobo said she received another check in the mail. But it still did not cover the full amount she says she spent.
A letter from the PTSA said it was only refunding Jacobo for the amount it was able to raise.
“As I started reviewing documents, the money isn’t adding up. They had enough money to pay it, so why didn’t you pay it,” Jacobo said.
Jacobo said she is coming forward because she wants other parents who volunteer to understand the importance of asking questions and keeping documentation of expenses.
“It’s unnecessary. I reached out to help the school like I do all the time, and this is the thanks I get,” she said.
Jacobo said she wants to be fully reimbursed. She also wants an apology.
The two parties are expected in a Cobb County courtroom Monday morning.
