HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh was reelected to office without facing an opponent.
Days later, and decades after taking office for the first time as DA, he resigned from his post.
A letter from Darragh said this “difficult decision” to resign was made after careful consideration of and discussions with his wife and family.

“During my career, I have had the pleasure of working with attorneys, investigators, advocates and administrative professionals in our shared fight for justice,” Darragh wrote. “More than employees, these people are like my family. More than a job, this has been a calling to help others and serve them as I have served God and my family.”
Darragh was appointed to serve as DA for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit in 2005, winning a full term in 2007, and remaining in office since.

In a statement shared by the District Attorney’s Office, Acting DA Jennifer Bagwell said she was proud to have worked with Darragh for 30 years.
“I want to assure the citizens of Hall and Dawson Counties that our office continues to seek justice with fairness and integrity,” Bagwell said.
She also plans to run for office to fill the seat. She’s worked in the Northeastern Judicial Circuit since 1996, according to the DA’s Office.
Darragh’s resignation was effective Friday, Nov. 5.
