HALL COUNTY, Ga. — The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has two people under arrest for alleged mail theft across the county.
Deputies began investigating in early August, when a “rash of thefts” of mail across Hall County were reported.
Residents told the sheriff’s office they’d found their mailboxes open and mail missing.
The Special Investigations Unit got involved after deputies noticed a pattern in the crimes, the sheriff’s office said.

Brent David Groover and Jayleigh Ryan Hicks were identified as the primary suspects in the theft cases, according to deputies. The sheriff’s office said the two were implicated in a series of mail thefts at homes in Flowery Branch and Buford, where victims provided security camera footage, showing a suspect vehicle.
That vehicle was then tracked through the Flock Safety camera system and investigators found and seized the vehicle on Aug. 25.
Groover and Hicks were taken into custody at a home in Lula on Aug. 26.
Deputies said Groover tried to run away when he saw deputies coming and was eventually captured after a K-9 team tracked him to a shed he was hiding under.
HCSO said Groover and Hicks each face five counts of misdemeanor theft by taking and one felony count of porch piracy.
Groover was also charged with misdemeanor obstruction.
Deputies said other mail thefts are still under investigation and additional charges for Groover and Hicks are expected.
