FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Someone who stopped at a metro Atlanta gas station for a scratch-off ended up holding a million-dollar ticket.

According to the Georgia Lottery, a player won a $1 million top prize playing the 50X The Money scratcher game. The winning ticket was purchased at Gaines Ferry Shell on Atlanta Highway in Flowery Branch.
Lottery officials said the winner recently claimed the prize and chose the lump-sum cash option rather than annual payments.
The player claimed the winnings on Sept. 29 and received a cash payout of $809,000, according to the Georgia Lottery.
The Georgia Lottery also reported that players across the state claimed more than $38.8 million in scratch-off winnings during the past week.
Proceeds from Georgia Lottery scratch-off games help fund educational programs throughout the state, including HOPE Scholarships and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.
