FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Kelley Edwards, a captain with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, has been named the next chief of police for the Flowery Branch Police Department.

Edwards will take over after current Chief Christopher Hulsey retires Sept. 30. Hulsey has served as chief since March 2022 and announced his retirement in September, two months before what would have been his 20th year with the department.
Edwards brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. He has held a variety of operational, training, supervisory and command positions and has served as captain of the Judicial Services Division and Special Teams since 2020.
His education includes a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Truett McConnell University, along with advanced training in supervision, management, executive leadership and law enforcement instruction.

“I am deeply honored by the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police,” Edwards said. “I look forward to building upon the strong foundation already in place, strengthening our relationship with the community, and serving with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to public safety.”
Hulsey said he has worked alongside Edwards for more than 20 years and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the department.
“I am 100% confident that he will do an outstanding job serving as the Flowery Branch Police Chief and a great leader for the entire city government and community,” Hulsey said.
City Manager Tonya Parrish said the city received more than 20 applications and interviewed five candidates before a five-member panel.
“Throughout the process, Kelley showed a sincere understanding of our community and the special relationship our police department has with the people it serves,” Parrish said.
