Channel 2 Gwinnett County bureau chief Matt Johnson reports that Tamaira Angell Smith, 52, is indicted on involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license in the death of Eyanna Moore, 29, of Loganville. Superior Court Judge Angela Duncan ruled Smith a flight risk.

Prosecutors say Smith injected Moore with silicone at a Holiday Inn Express near Stone Mountain on May 30, 2009. Moore died May 31.

“I took care of Eyanna’s kids when she passed, and her kids, they have grown up to be good kids, but a couple of them don’t even remember their mama’s name, their mama’s voice, nothing like that,” said Lisa James, Moore’s aunt.

Smith got a South Carolina license with someone else’s identity and tried to renew it in July, prosecutors say.

The DMV had already flagged it, so her renewal alerted the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Special Agent Shawn Ludwig said. Biometric checks turned up her real name and Georgia warrants. Smith had no idea, he said.

“Someone who’s been on the run for 17 years just calling to renew a driver’s license, and we find out that she’s wanted for murder,” Ludwig said.

Ludwig found both her names registered to one address in McKinney, Texas, along with a vehicle. McKinney police arrested her at that address within three to four hours of his call.

Smith’s attorney Joshua Elbaz asked for $25,000 bond with an ankle monitor.

“For somebody to go 17 years without getting into any more trouble, it’s very rare,” Elbaz said.

James disagreed.

“She might not have been in no trouble in the last 17 years because she wasn’t under her name,” James said.

Smith remains in the Gwinnett County Jail and faces an obstruction charge in Texas, where prosecutors say she tried to run from officers.
