Popular Moe's restaurant fails health inspection

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A well-known and popular Moe's Southwest Grill failed a recent health inspection in Gwinnett County.

There are hundreds of Moe’s in the United States, and in Turkey and Russia.

But it's the location on Highway 78 in Lilburn that got a score of 60 after an Aug. 7 inspection. That surprised some customers.

Howard Eley had just tried the Moe’s while visiting metro Atlanta. Eley says he’s from California and knows good Mexican food.

He says the Moe’s was good and he doesn’t know why it got an unsatisfactory score.

TRENDING STORIES:

Erin Bradford says she has eaten there before. She says a 60 is horrible and she won’t return.

Violations included an employee putting unwashed mushrooms on the grill for cooking, hot water at the employee handwashing sink not hot enough and food, including guacamole, not cooled properly.

No one at the Lilburn Moe's would talk to Channel 2's Carol Sbarge about the failing health inspection.

Some were repeat violations. The food service permit was suspended during the inspection for a third-time violation of workers improperly eating in the kitchen area.

After immediate training, the permit was re-instated.

This Moe’s will be re-inspected this month. At that time, we’ll let you know the new score.
