Gwinnett County family mourns loss of son and brother who tied them all together

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a Gwinnett County man found dead in late October is spending their first holiday without him mourning, and desperately trying to find the person responsible for his death.

Gwinnett County police said Garcia Gaddis was reported missing on Oct. 21. His body was found inside his pickup truck just a few days later near Lawrenceville with no phone or wallet.

Gaddis’s family said they were told by police the commercial truck driver and part time Uber driver may have been the victim of a robbery gone bad and was shot. Channel 2′s Michele Newell spoke to his mother Gilda Ages and his brother Lorinzo McKinley who still can’t believe Gaddis is gone.

“Someone took his life and we’re devastated behind that and we would like justice,” McKinley said.

“What do you know up to this point, about what happened to your son?” Newell asked.

“They think he was robbed. His wallet was missing and his cellphone was missing. So that’s all we know right now,” Ages said.

Ages told Newell she was not thrilled her son was driving Uber. She said Gaddis did that when he was not driving his truck.

“I didn’t really want him to do Uber,” Ages said. She said the family did not know if that’s what Gaddis was doing when he was robbed.

His mother said Garcia was someone with a huge personality who could light up a room with his smile.

“He was a joyful person,” Ages said.

“If you knew him you loved him and you’d want to get to know him even more,” McKinley said.

Newell said the family told her all they want are answers and eventually justice for the death of their loved one. Gaddis’s mom and his brother have been posting pictures on social media hoping that someone will come forward with information on what happened.

The family said Gaddis was their glue, the one who help hold them all together and they said Thanksgiving just won’t be the same this year without him.

“It hurts real bad. It hurts real bad knowing my child would be right here with me,” Ages said.
