WOODSTOCK, Ga. — One person is dead, and two elementary school students suffered minor injuries after a minivan crashed into the back of a Cherokee County school bus Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 92 and Main Street in Woodstock.
According to police, a Cherokee County School District bus carrying 20 students to Woodstock Elementary School was stopped at a red light when a minivan slammed into the rear of the bus.
The force of the collision pushed the front of the minivan underneath the back of the bus and crushed the vehicle to the windshield. The driver of the minivan died at the scene.
Investigators have not yet released the identity of the driver.
Authorities said the school bus driver was not injured. Two students complained of pain following the crash and were treated for minor injuries.

A worker at a nearby paint store told Channel 2 Action News he heard tires screeching just before the crash as the minivan driver appeared to be trying to stop.
People who arrived at the scene shortly after the collision said seeing the wreckage was heartbreaking.
“The children, kids, family, everybody,” said Casey Parker.
Parker said his first reaction was to pray for those involved.
“Prayer for the family. The tarp probably indicates someone’s death, and that’s all I can do,” he said.
Woodstock police redirected traffic around the crash while firefighters worked to remove the heavily damaged minivan from underneath the bus. The roadway remained closed for about three hours before crews cleared the scene.
The principal at Woodstock Elementary School notified families that all 20 students on the bus were safe.
The school also arranged for additional counseling support and a nurse to be available for students following the traumatic incident.
Police continue to investigate what led up to the fatal crash.
