Gwinnett County Fire said Harris died at the scene just feet from her front door.
Family told Channel 2 Action News that it was Harris’ first day in ROTC at South Gwinnett High School and she was in full uniform dress for her first day of inspection.
“It makes me happy to see all these young people here. Hopefully this will open their minds, and take things that life is not guaranteed at all,” Harris’ cousin Charles Staley told Channel 2′s Michele Newell at the vigil. “That any moment you could be away from your family.”
