GSP: 4-year-old hit, killed by dad's truck

BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia State Troopers said a 4-year-old boy was killed after his father's truck rolled over him their driveway.

The accident happened at about 7 p.m. Monday at an Auburn apartment complex on Mount Moriah Road in Barrow County.

Authorities told Channel 2's Ashley Swann the 4-year-old and his 7-year-old brother were riding on the back of the truck as it was being backed down a driveway when the victim fell out the passenger side and was hit. Police said the truck was in neutral at the time.

Family members immediately called police, but investigators said the child was dead when they arrived.

"This is probably one of the hardest things for us to have to respond to as emergency responders in general. Any time there is a fatality, it's obviously tragic, but any time there is a child involved, it's a very difficult time for everybody," said Auburn Police Sgt. Diana Campbell.

Police said the incident appears to be an accident and charges will not be filed against the father.

WSB-TV is not identifying the child until the entire family is notified.
