Georgia Tech kicks season off hosting Deion Sanders, Colorado

ATLANTA — The sun has been shining bright over Bobby Dodd Stadium all week, but it’ll be under the national spotlight Thursday night.

Brent Key and Georgia Tech welcome Deion Sanders and Colorado for the season opener in primetime. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

“I’m excited to see, you know, what Bobby Dodd’s going to look like again in a night game. It’s very exciting. And obviously we get to face a great team,” offensive lineman Ethan Mackenny said.

So much focus for Key and his football program this offseason has been about taking that next step overall. Georgia Tech finished 9-4 in 2025 and have a winning season every year under Key. But the Yellow Jackets are still searching for their first ACC title since 2009.

The players understand that beating Colorado is the first step to getting to that next step. And they know what their fans are expecting of them.

“When the crowd come out and they come and they sell out and they do their thing, the energy just, it runs through us. Like, we know like the whole city or the whole fan base is behind us. It just makes you play harder,” linebacker EJ Lightsey said.
