Georgia sees second-highest daily COVID-19 death toll amid deadliest week since pandemic began

ATLANTA — For the second day in a row, Georgia health officials have reported over 150 deaths from COVID-19 in a 24-hour period.

Saturday’s report marks the second-highest single-day death toll reported since the pandemic began. Another 154 people have died of the virus, officials said.

On Friday, 159 new deaths were reported across the state.

It’s the fifth day in a row that Georgia has seen over 100 deaths reported per day. The moving 7-day average for new deaths is 107 per day. At least 751 people have died since Monday.

As of Saturday, the five deadliest days of the pandemic have been this week.
