BURKE COUNTY, Ga. — A mother got to say thank you to the Georgia police officer who saved her baby. Almost as important, the officer got to see the little boy he brought back to life.

In January, Waynesboro Police Sgt. Harold Drummond was the first officer to arrive on the scene of a baby who stopped breathing at a Dollar General store.

His body camera video captured the tense moments when he took the baby boy and began performing CPR on him in the parking lot.

Baby AJ was so small that Drummond could only use two fingers to perform the lifesaving procedure.

On the bodycam video, you can hear Drummond repeatedly tell AJ, "You're OK," before the child starts crying after struggling to breathe.

And just recently, Drummond was able to see little AJ and tell him how much he meant to him. The True Citizen was there when the happy reunion happened at the police department.

Drummond picked up baby AJ and kissed his forehead.

Sgt. Harold Drummond of the Waynesboro Police Department received a special visit yesterday: he officially met baby AJ after reviving the unresponsive infant on Jan. 18. This is a video of their reunion. Story is available on our Facebook page and website. We are proud of you Sgt. Drummond. #HometownHero #BurkeCountyStrong

“I really thank you,” AJ’s mother says, laughing when he admits he was nervous. “You didn’t seem nervous at all. I entrusted you guys to do what you do, and I thank you so very much, way deep down from the bottom of my soul.”

The True Citizen said Police Chief Willie Burley commended Drummond for his heroic action.

“Our job is to serve and protect. This sergeant did an outstanding job, and we are here for you any time you need us,” Burley said.
