WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The White County Board of Commissioners is weighing a pair of moratoriums on new convenience stores and vape shops in unincorporated parts of the county.
According to the White County commission agenda for Monday’s meeting, commissioners could block applications for new convenience stores, new vape shops and new CBD shops across the county.
Concerning the potential for new convenience stores, documents from the county commission say there are currently five applications for stores to be placed on various highways throughout White County.
“We need to make sure that our growth occurs in the right places, under clear and predictable standards, based on sound planning,” the proposed moratorium says.

If approved, the moratorium would last 180 days. County staff recommend approving the moratorium.
Separately, the commission is considering a 180-day moratorium on new vape shops and CBD shops.
Commission documents say that county officials need an opportunity to review current regulations and applicable state laws regarding where CBD and vape shops can be operated and any potential land use or regulatory concerns.
the moratorium would apply to businesses that sell alternative nicotine products, vapor and vapor-related products, and CBD products.
The county’s staff recommended approving the moratorium so they have enough time to perform an analysis of a permanent regulatory framework, documents say.
