UNION CITY, Ga. — A search of a Union City home uncovered a methamphetamine laboratory and more than 240 pounds of crystal and liquid methamphetamine, federal officials said.

Two undocumented immigrants from Mexico, David Miranda Gomez, 34, and Robert Gomez Garcia, 33, are facing federal drug distribution charges in connection with the investigation.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, DEA agents searched the home on Aug. 25 after previously observing Garcia allegedly sell nearly four and a half pounds of methamphetamine in the parking lot of a shopping plaza.
Once inside the home, agents found multiple rooms equipped with propane burners, large pots, electric fans, plastic sheeting, resealable bags and other items allegedly used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Agents also found large amounts of liquid and crystal methamphetamine on both floors of the home, along with painted trinkets that allegedly contained liquid methamphetamine.
In all, investigators seized 240 pounds of crystal and liquid methamphetamine, thousands of dollars in cash and an AR-style pistol, according to federal officials.

“These illegal aliens were allegedly concocting massive amounts of methamphetamine in the cul-de-sac of a neighborhood and intended to distribute their deadly drugs in our community,” U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg said.
Hertzberg said the meth lab has been shut down and both suspects are in custody.
DEA Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Connolly said investigators believe the suspects used a different method of concealment to avoid detection.
“Our investigators remained persistent and uncovered the operation,” Connolly said. “We will continue to pursue those who manufacture and distribute methamphetamine and hold them accountable.”
Gomez and Garcia appeared in federal court Thursday on criminal complaints charging each with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Both men were ordered detained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending further proceedings.
