Student found with knife at Cherokee County school

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A student brought a knife onto a school campus in Cherokee County, according to school officials.

The incident occurred at River Ridge High School, where administrators said they were made aware of the situation after school Thursday.

School officials said Cherokee County School District Police and local law enforcement partners immediately began investigating. No details were released about the student involved.

Students found in violation of the district’s code of conduct could face disciplinary action and possible criminal charges, according to a message sent to families by Principal Justin Sanderson.

“We take threats to the safety and security of our students, staff, and schools very seriously,” Sanderson wrote.

The principal also thanked those who reported concerns and reminded families about the district’s Vector Alert system, which allows students, parents, staff and community members to report safety concerns by text, email, phone call or online message, including anonymously.
