FUEL SPILLED FROM THE TANKER
Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach first reported on the crash on Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m. He learned that the truck was carrying about 7,500 gallons of fuel.
The fuel started running off into a storm drain and nearby creek which flows into Browns Mill Lake. Officials have not said how many gallons were spilled.
Just before 10:30 a.m., DeKalb County Fire Rescue said the rest of the fuel was offloaded from the tanker. Crews are focused on cleaning up the fuel that spilled before it can safely upright the overturned tanker.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Agency and Georgia State Patrol commercial vehicle division have been called out to assist.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Drivers are being rerouted in the area. Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields says drivers can use Klondike Road/S Goddard Road, E. Fairview Road or Highway 138 as alternates.
DeKalb County Schools confirmed the road shut down impacted several of its bus routes in the area.
“All routes serving Murphey Candler Elementary School were affected, along with several routes serving Martin Luther King Jr. High School and Salem Middle School. Some student stops associated with E.L. Bouie Theme School were also impacted,” a district spokesperson said. “Due to access limitations, approximately six Exceptional Education students in the Klondike/Browns Mill Ferry Road area could not be serviced this morning.”
The district says it’s monitoring the situation and will make adjustments as needed.
