FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A north Georgia man is facing theft charges after authorities say he made off with thousands of dollars instead of doing the work he was hired for.
According to arrest warrants obtained by Channel 2 Action News, Richard McDermott is accused of stealing at least $50,000.

Warrants say McDermott agreed to build pools for two Forsyth County homeowners, but never followed through.
In each case, McDermott received at least $25,000 from the victim.
Instead of building pools, warrants say he used the money for his own use, but didn’t specify what that was.

The cases were said to have began in November and December 2022 and lasted through the next April.
He is charged with two counts of theft by conversion and pleaded not guilty earlier this month.
