‘All clear’ after bomb threat at Georgia Power plant causes evacuation

Georgia Power said a threat was made to the plant, saying an explosive device was in a portable toilet on the the plant’s property.

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia Power said the “all clear” has been given after a reported bomb threat at one of its facilities Monday.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said Plant Yates on Dyer Road was evacuated and Highway 16 was temporarily shut down.

Georgia Power said that the plant received reports that there was “an explosive device on site, posted inside a portable toilet.”

“We took the threat seriously, immediately evacuated the site and worked with local authorities to sweep the property. We’re grateful for the quick response of local first responders and, as of late this afternoon, have received the all clear’ for work to resume at the site,” a company spokesperson said.

The incident did not affect their ability to serve customers, they said.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.
