The department announced the service, giving residents three ways to submit information: online, by text or through the free East Point PD app for iPhone and Android.

To submit a tip by text, residents can text EPPDGA, followed by a space and the information, to 847411.

The tip411 service removes identifying information before tips reach police. Officers can also respond with follow-up questions while preserving the tipster’s anonymity, according to the department.

Police encourage residents to include as much useful information as possible, including the location, date and time of an incident and descriptions of people or vehicles involved.

The department says even small details could help prevent crime or solve an investigation.

Police emphasize that tip411 is not a substitute for emergency services. Anyone reporting an emergency or crime in progress should call 911.
