PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Peachtree City police said they can't believe that a DUI suspect who led police on an 8-mile chase Aug. 19 didn't cause a major wreck.
Dashcam video shows the suspect, in a big black SUV, flying past an officer and then leading police on an 8-mile chase, weaving through traffic on Georgia Highway 74, going off the road and back on again.
"(He) passed him like he was standing still. He was in a fully marked SUV K-9 police car with a big light bar on it," Peachtree City Police Lt. Mark Brown said.
Detectives said Shane Adams, 27, of Atlanta was behind the wheel. Police said they are waiting for blood tests to see if he had of drugs in his system.
The chase was reported at 2 p.m. on August 19. Police said speeds topped 100 mph before Adams came to a stop just short of Interstate 85 in Fairburn in Fulton County.
Police said Adams thought he was getting on the interstate, but instead turned onto a dead-end street.
"You're not going to outrun the radio. Fairburn police were waiting for him to stop him up there by the interstate. They did a great job to get him into custody for us to pick him up and put him in the Fayette County Jail," Brown said.
Adams was charged with DUI, felony fleeing and attempt to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended driver's license and two counts of failure to maintain lane.
