BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — A federal fugitive is back in custody after a brief escape attempt in DeKalb County.

Jared Shemar Hannah was wanted by federal authorities when deputy U.S. Marshals tried to arrest him June 10, according to Brookhaven police.
Instead of surrendering, Hannah ran into a wooded area along Peachtree Creek, prompting a search involving Brookhaven officers.
Drone video released by BPD shows officers keeping track of Hannah as he moved through the woods.
BPD K9 Voex and his handler were also brought in to help with the apprehension.
The K9 ultimately located Hannah and helped officers take him into custody.

Hannah was evaluated by EMS at the scene before being turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Brookhaven police praised the coordinated effort between the U.S. Marshals, officers, the department’s drone unit and K9 team.
“A federal fugitive ran. Our drone didn’t lose him. BPD K9 Voex caught him,” the department said.
Police did not release details about the federal case Hannah was wanted in.
