Georgia is a rabies-endemic state where the virus remains active year-round. County officials note that it is routine for the area to report several rabies cases annually.

County officials advise residents to keep pet rabies vaccinations up to date and register vaccination tags with DeKalb County Animal Control.

Vaccinations effectively protect both pets and humans from the virus.
