Kayleigh Fox, 23, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree cruelty to children, according to the Grovetown Police Department.
Police said the investigation began Wednesday, after a parent reported that their child had been injured the day before at Big Blue Marble Academy on Grove Landing Way.
The parent told investigators that the daycare director had called Tuesday to report that the child had been injured in an accident. When the parent arrived to pick up the child, they noticed a cut on the child’s chin and took the child to a local medical facility, where the wound required several stitches.
The parent also said they had asked to see video of the incident but were told it would not be available for several days.

On Thursday, investigators obtained surveillance video from the daycare. According to police, the video showed the child standing on an overturned chair when Fox approached and pulled the chair out from underneath them, causing the child to fall face-first onto the floor.
Investigators said Fox then began putting shoes on the child without acknowledging or addressing the injury.
Daycare management told investigators that Fox had been fired Wednesday morning.
Fox was interviewed at the Grovetown Police Department on Thursday afternoon and then booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.
