DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony later this week for Fire Station No. 16, a new $10.9 million fire station funded through the DeKalb County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program.
County officials said Fire Station No. 16 is one of three new fire stations planned for construction in 2026.
The new two-story 14,601-square-foot station will include separate spaces for male and female firefighters and amenities meant to support firefighter health, safety, and wellness.

The station will have hot and cold zones, plus a separate area for soiled turnout gear and laundry away from the living quarters.
Officials said that the design aims to reduce possible cross-contamination and limit firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens in sleeping and dining areas.
The station will also include individual sleeping quarters, a commercial-grade kitchen, a workout room, restrooms for all gender identifying crew, a multipurpose room for community use, and exterior landscaping.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Thursday.
