Community holds vigil for man killed in crosswalk

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Someone hit and killed a man in DeKalb County and kept driving, according to the victim’s friends.

Family members said Dwayne Gordon, 45, was in the crosswalk when he was hit by at least one car on Glenwood Road at Austin Drive on Saturday night.

Hundreds of people showed up for a vigil for Gordon, aka “Playa Playa,” on Sunday night. Friends and family said his colorful outfits and infectious smile were legendary in the Glenwood community.

“If you were walking around sad or mad, you couldn’t be sad or mad (because) he’s going to say something to lift you up,” a friend said.

Family members want to know what happened and who might be responsible for Gordon’s death.

“I want justice for this, for what has happened to my dad,” Gordon's daughter said.

As the vigil was going on, there was another crash in the same intersection.

Gordon's daughter said the turnout for her father’s vigil is helping the family heal as they wait for more answers from DeKalb County Police.

“It’s challenging, but we’re getting through this,” she said.

Family members have tried to ask around for surveillance video, but have had no luck.
