CVS joins growing list of pharmacies offering COVID-19 vaccines to public

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — For those having trouble finding a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, there are new options nearly every day.

CVS pharmacies have become the latest to scheduled shots of unused vaccines from Georgia nursing homes and care facilities.

Dennis and Wendy Campbell traveled from Jackson County for their vaccinations. After they hopelessly scoured for weeks to land an appointment, they finally scored at a CVS store in Gainesville,

“My neighbor said ‘Check CVS. I put my appointment in today and I’m going tomorrow.’ So yesterday at 10am, we went on line and got our appointment, and it was good,” Dennis Campbell told Channel 2′s Tom Regan.

CVS health is one of several national pharmacy chains asked to help administer vaccines at nursing homes and long term care facilities.

But a large number of doses allocated for that population went unused, so now it’s going to the general public.

Joshua Lock, a district leader who is also a pharmacist, said 11 stores are administering vaccines. It’s about 1,100 doses a day, keeping them busy.

“There’s not a minute that goes by that we are not getting questions or phone calls,” Lock said.

Lock told Regan they are booking appointments about a week out and they fill up quickly. Georgians can look to a neighboring city if they can’t find an appointment in their city.

Publix and Kroger pharmacies are also now offering COVID-19 vaccinations.
