NEWNAN, Ga. — A Newnan teen is facing charges after police say he assaulted a runner during a high school cross-country meet.

Newnan police were called to the area of 56 Sewell Road at 7:59 a.m. on Sept. 26 after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault during the event.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim and several witnesses. Police said witnesses reported that a man emerged from the woods holding rocks and wearing an East Coweta High School cross-country jersey.
Police said the suspect ran toward the victim, pushed him and hit him with his fists. The victim defended himself before the suspect left the racecourse and ran back into the woods.

A short time later, police said the suspect, 19-year-old Aiden Dombrowski of Newnan, turned himself in to officers in a nearby parking lot. Although he had changed clothes, officers found the East Coweta cross-country jersey inside his vehicle.
Dombrowski was arrested and taken to the Coweta County Jail, where he was charged with battery.
In an update released Tuesday, the Newnan Police Department said it confirmed with the Coweta County School System that Dombrowski is not a current or former student of East Coweta High School.
The investigation remains ongoing.
