SHARPSBURG, Ga. — The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office confirms that a man was hit and killed by a tree in Sharpsburg this weekend.
Deputies responded Saturday morning to the 80 block of Timberbrook Drive, where witnesses said a tree fell on an elderly man while he was walking.
Coweta Fire and Rescue said the tree fell on the man at around 7 a.m. while the man was walking around his neighborhood.

The deputy said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The scene was turned over to fire and emergency services.

Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk identified the man on Wednesday as Gerald A. Basch.
A fire official said the tree also hit a car that was passing by, but no one was hurt in the car.
