COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The fall semester is off to a rough start for some students at Kennesaw State University.
They say a fire alarm in a new dorm on campus has gone off 18 times since they moved in.
Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell learned that parents are frustrated, too.
Parents contacted Channel 2 Action News and sent us a video of a fire alarm going off after 1 a.m.
One student told Newell that she couldn’t even get to class on time.
“It’s like really loud,” student Ciani Colbert said.

On the first day of the fall semester at Kennesaw State, some students barely made it to class.
“I woke up at 6:50. I was in the shower. Alarm goes off, and I’m late to class,” Colbert said.
Parents sent us video recorded at 1:13 a.m. inside the Summit 2 dorm.
“I go back to sleep, 9 o’clock, 10 o’clock, there’s another one going on. I go back out,” freshman Travion Rhodes said.

“I moved in Friday, and this issue has been going on for three days straight now,” freshman Ahmed McDowell said.
“There’s been 18 alarms so far in total, I think. I’ve been here for 15 of them. I want to say there was three on the first day and I wasn’t here yet,” Colbert said.
“They’re talking about you gotta treat it as a real alarm each time. I’m like, bro, I’m asleep, and we got classes tomorrow,” Rhodes said.

Students received an email from KSU Housing that said, “While some alarms may have been triggered by activities such as cooking and steam, they’ve also identified a programming issue with the building’s fire alarm system that’s increasing its sensitivity.”
“First day of class, you would think it would already be fixed,” Rhodes said.
“I got classes. I am losing sleep. I don’t even get the recommended 8 hours. It’s very annoying,” McDowell said.
