Man wanted for attempted murder led police on a chase that reached 120 mph, warrant shows

SMYRNA, Ga. — Smyrna police said an officer attempted to stop a man for speeding, but the driver led them on a high-speed chase on the East-West Connector and surrounding roads.

The chase happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the chase lasted for a few miles and ended with a PIT maneuver.

The driver, identified as Samir Moore, surrendered peacefully.

An arrest warrant shows speeds reached 120 miles per hour on Hicks Road in Cobb County.

Following Moore’s arrest, officers learned he had an active warrant out of Douglas County for attempted homicide, police said.

“After he’s finished dealing with his charges here in Cobb County, he’ll be transferred over to Douglas County,” Smyrna police Lt. Louis Defense said.

Channel 2′s Chris Jose obtained a Douglas County grand jury warrant that shows Moore is facing a handful of charges for an August 2020 shooting near Interstate 20 and Lee Road.

According to the warrant, the victim was seriously injured.

Moore is currently booked in the Cobb County jail.
