Community rallies behind Ga. family involved in deadly Thanksgiving crash

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A family is mourning the loss of two of their own, but has the community rallying behind them.

The Mynes family, a father, mother and their two daughters, were riding down Knox Bridge Road in Canton on Thanksgiving morning when deputies say a Ford F-150 truck crossed the center line and crashed into the car.

Chris Mynes and his daughter, 18-year-old Alivia, did not survive.

Channel 2′s Michele Newell was outside Creekview High School on Monday where Alivia recently graduated from and her sister still attends. Grief counselors were at the school for students who know the family.

It’s not only those who are familiar with the family supporting them. Trevor Odom saw the aftermath of the crash.

“We pulled up on the accident,” Odom said. “It was an entrapment situation. A lot of people were trying to get to the vehicle and remove the occupants from the vehicle.”

Alivia Mynes was a freshman in college and a former standout for her high school volleyball team. The varsity volleyball coach remembered her as a passionate and enthusiastic teammate.

“The only good, positive thing about this was seeing everyone come together around the family. You’ve got a mom and a daughter on the side of the road. They just lost two members of their family,” Odom recalled.

While he does not know the family personally, he says they are in his thoughts and prayers.

“It’s hard not to think about them,” he said. “I lost a friend seven years ago in a car accident on Christmas Eve.”

Investigators say charges are pending against the truck driver.

The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses.
