Cobb police unveiling new technology that helps them track crime in real time

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Cobb County Police Department is taking an innovative approach to tracking crime and solving the most violent ones.

Community members were invited to a special event Tuesday night to look at special equipment police use to tackle crime.

The “Future in Policing” event was led by Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer and Cobb County Commissioner Jerica Richardson.

“We’re constantly looking to innovate and find new ways to help us to fight crime,” said Sgt. Wayne Delk.

The department is using special equipment to map major crime scenes. They also use drones and robots for certain situations.

“We’re one of only a few agencies that actually have an actual running real time crime center, robots that can actually handle potentially explosive devices. Our STEP unit, they use drones to map serious accidents.”

Some of the equipment was on full display at Tuesday night’s event.

“This is the first time we’ve actually showcased our actually technology. The public would actually have a chance to physically see the equipment we are talking about,” said Sgt. Delk.
