Police: Woman killed, teen injured in shooting before suspect led officers on chase

Channel 2 Action News has learned a chase involving a deadly shooting suspect ended with a crash in Cobb County.

Cobb County police told Channel 2′s Michael Seiden they responded to a domestic shooting at a home off Spring Valley Road in Smyrna.

Officers found the body of a woman who was shot and killed inside the home. A 16-year-old was also shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the gunman started to leave the driveway in his truck when he fired at officers.

The gunman took off in his truck and led officers on a high-speed chase for miles, according to police.

“One of the rounds struck an officer’s vehicle. All of our officers are OK," Officer Sydney Melton said.

Police said the gunman led officers on a high-speed chase that lasted more than six miles. The man crashed his truck into another car in front Chick-Fil-A on South Cobb Drive at Highland Parkway.

No one was injured in the crash and police took the man into custody.

Back at the home, Seiden watched a heartbreaking scene as officers removed several witnesses including a young child who was inside as the shooting happened.

Police have not confirmed the relationship between the victims and the shooter.

“There were other witnesses inside the home and at this point we will be speaking with them and trying to identify relationships and find out more about what happened," Melton said.
