CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a man murdered in a jealous rage says they are happy the shooter will never walk the streets again.

That’s after a Clayton County judge sentenced Dontavious Carr to life without parole, plus a consecutive 35 years.

A jury convicted him of the murder of Arfredrick Magby, Jr.

His grandmother told Channel 2’s Tom Jones that Carr will never walk the streets again.

“Should never ever, ever, ever get out of jail,” Carla Watson said outside the Clayton County courthouse.

Watson said Carr deserves every one of the years he received.

“Because what he did is, he took my grandson. He was the most innocent guy,” she said.

Clayton County prosecutors said Carr shot and killed Magby Jr. in front of two young children and their mother at a home on Godby Road in 2022.

The state said Carr, fueled by jealousy over his child’s mother wanting to pursue a romantic relationship with Magby Jr.

Magby Jr.’s father asked the judge to give Carr the maximum sentence when he gave his victim impact statement.

“I feel like that person deserves the maximum for taking a life. So senseless and taking my son’s life,” Arfredrick Magby Sr. said after court.

Magby Sr. said this has affected his entire family.

“Still hurting. That was my best friend,” Magby Sr. said.

Magby Jr.’s grandmother wore a shirt that said, “We have justice, but we still are incomplete.”

“Because we never gonna get him back,” Watson said.

Carr took the stand and apologized to Magby Jr.’s family. But he said Magby Jr. played a role in his own death.

Prosecutors said that comment proves Carr hasn’t taken accountability and should be sentenced to life without parole plus 35 years.
