ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr’s Office announced a murder conviction for a man’s death at an Athens apartment complex.
Zyquavious Thomas, now 18, was found guilty of shooting and killing Cameron Manago, 20, at the Rolling Ridge Apartments in May 2024.
Carr’s office said the conviction was secured by the Gang Prosecution Unit, adding that Thomas was an associate of Sex Money Murder, a Bloods-affiliated gang with “a strong presence through the state.”
Carr said in a statement that after forming the Gang Prosecution Unit, it immediately started working in Athens with local and federal partners.

“As soon as we created our Gang Prosecution Unit in 2022, we immediately partnered with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, GBI and FBI to address an ongoing gang conflict in the area,” Attorney General Chris Carr said. “With each new conviction, we’re sending a strong message that violent crime won’t be tolerated in Athens or anywhere in this state, and it’s making a difference. We’re proud to have secured justice for Cameron Manago and his family, and we will continue to use all available resources to keep Georgians safe.”

Carr’s sentiment was echoed by members of the FBI and GBI Director Chris Hosey.
“The loss of a young life is devastating, and this case underscores the lasting harm gang violence can have on families and communities,” GBI Director Chris Hosey said.
Hosey said the conviction is one of 21 gang convictions the GBI has assisted the prosecution unit in Athens since 2022.
“We remain committed to working with our local, state, and federal partners to investigate gang-related violence and protect the communities we serve.”
Carr’s office said Thomas pled guilty to:
- 1 count of Voluntary Manslaughter
- 1 count of Armed Robbery
- 2 counts of Aggravated Assault
- 4 counts of Violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act
- 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- 1 count of Possession of a Handgun by a Person Under the Age of 18 Years
He was sentenced to 50 years, with 35 to be served in prison and the remaining years on “strict probation.”
The Georgia Attorney General’s Office still has a case against one more defendant, which remains active.
