ATLANTA — The City of Atlanta and Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD) will host a community celebration on Saturday, Sept.12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Microsoft’s donated parcel at Quarry Yards in Atlanta’s Grove Park neighborhood.

The celebration will mark the company’s donation last year of approximately 22.5 acres of land for community-focused development, according to a press release.
“This land donation creates an important opportunity to deliver meaningful benefits for Grove Park residents,” Mayor Andre Dickens said in the press release. “Through our Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative, we are focused on bringing investment, resources and opportunity to communities that have gone without for too long. We appreciate Microsoft for taking this step, and together with the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation and Grove Park residents, we will work to ensure this property supports affordable housing, stronger neighborhood resources and lasting opportunity for the people who call this community home.”

Microsoft purchased the Quarry Yards property in 2021 and committed to reserving approximately one-quarter of the property for community use. The approximately 22.5-acre parcel being donated to the City of Atlanta through AUD fronts Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and is positioned to help connect residents with nearby community resources, including KIPP Woodson Academy and the Grove Park Recreation Center.
The donation also aims to help advance Dickens’ goal of constructing or preserving 20,000 affordable housing units by 2029 and supports AUD’s mission to create mixed-income communities with long-term affordability.
The Sept. 12 event will also recognize the partnership between Microsoft, the City of Atlanta and AUD and highlight the next phase of work to ensure the property contributes to the long-term vitality of Grove Park and the surrounding community.
