LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. — A small Baptist college community in south Georgia is mourning the loss of one of their students.
Ella Jenkins, an 18-year-old Freshman softball player at Brewton-Parker Christian University, was killed in a car crash over the weekend.

According to Georgia State Patrol, Jenkins was the passenger in a Chevrolet Colorado driving down Hwy. 31 in Laurens County on Sunday night.
The Chevrolet truck hit a flatbed trailer being pulled by a 1995 Peterbilt 379, which spun the truck, causing it to crash into a Chevrolet Camaro.
Jenkins was thrown from the car and suffered fatal injuries. There is no word on the condition of the driver.

Brewton-Parker issued a statement on Monday morning confirming Jenkins’ death.
“We ask our BPCU family and friends to join us in prayer for Ella’s family and for all who are grieving. In a time when words feel inadequate, we find our comfort and hope in Christ, trusting in His presence and His promise to never leave us or forsake us,” they wrote in a statement.
It’s unclear if the driver of the truck will face charges.
