CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is warning parents about the consequences of their children behaving recklessly when riding e-bikes.

The sheriff’s office said they could have charged the young people with reckless driving, aggressive driving or simple assault.
Deputies said they responded to a 911 call in the Centennial Lakes subdivision just after 7 p.m. Wednesday on Celebration Lane after a woman said youths on e-bikes circled her car, harassed her and prevented her from getting out safely.
Deputies used handcuffs as a temporary safety measure because the youths had attempted to flee during previous law enforcement encounters, the sheriff’s office explained in a social media post.

When she asked the group to move away from her vehicle, more of them arrived on the scene.
After she got out of her car, the youths made obscene hand gestures and body movements, with several riding their e-bikes toward her in a threatening manner, according to the sheriff’s office report.
“This is not kids being kids or boys being boys,” the woman said. “This is dangerous and aggressive behavior.”
The woman said she recognized the juveniles from earlier incidents she had reported to law enforcement.
Deputies found the group nearby and instructed them to sit on the curb.
Rather than impounding the e-bikes, which authorities said could cause unnecessary financial hardship for the families, deputies said they chose to educate the young people and their parents on e-bike regulations and the consequences of reckless behavior.
The youths were ultimately not charged with a crime.
