WATCH: Dirt bike rider arrested on Atlanta Beltline

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a traffic stop on the Atlanta Beltline led to the arrest of a dirt bike rider and the recovery of a gun, drugs, and thousands of dollars in cash.

Atlanta police path force officers were patrolling the Beltline near Irwin Street Northeast on Aug. 7 after receiving reports of illegal motor vehicles being driven on the popular trail.

Officers said they spotted a man riding a dirt bike and initiated a stop.

Police said the rider, identified as James Womack, struggled with officers when they tried to detain him. After a brief tussle, officers were able to take him into custody.

Investigators said a search of Womack’s backpack uncovered:

  • $3,248 in cash
  • A gun
  • 3 grams of methamphetamine
  • 9 grams of cocaine
  • A hydrocodone pill
  • 13 MDMA pills
  • 15 grams of mushrooms
  • 6 amphetamine pills
  • 110 grams of marijuana

Womack was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and obstruction.

He was booked into the Fulton County Jail.
