Rapper Lil Uzi Vert arrested in Atlanta

ATLANTA — A rapper was one of two people arrested after riding unregistered and uninsured dirt bikes on sidewalks and in a parking lot.

Lil Uzi Vert, whose legal name is Symere Woods, was riding a dirt bike on the sidewalk near Northside Drive on Thursday night, according to a police report.

He gained recognition after releasing his debut single, “Money Longer” and several mix tapes, including Luv is Rage, Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World and The Perfect Luv Tape. He is also featured on the hit song with Future “Too Much Sauce.”

The Atlanta officer watched as Woods and Ivison Smith entered a Texaco gas station and began to accelerate toward people who were walking in the lot. The dirt bikes had no headlights, brake lights or tail lights, and neither driver was wearing a helmet.

“I could hear the engines revving up as they were in the lot,” the officer wrote in the report. “They then exited the gas station at a high rate of speed and began to travel southbound on Northside Drive.”

After they headed the wrong way into traffic and forced cars to move out of their way, they drove across five lanes of traffic without using turn signals, police said.

Officers stopped the men and found Smith’s license was suspended and Woods had no license with him. They were arrested and booked into the Atlanta Detention Center.

Both were charged with operating a motorcycle without insurance, obstruction, registration required, wrong way on one way, turn signals required, head lights required, helmets required, reckless driving, brake lights required, tail lights required, operating dirt bike on city street and failure to maintain lane.

In addition, Woods was charged with license to be carried on person and Smith was charged with driving with a suspended license.

Police said Woods “had a large sum of money in his possession” at the time, which was not taken from him.

Woods was released from jail Friday on a $6,500 bond, according to records.
