ATLANTA — A disturbing animal cruelty investigation in Fulton County has led to the arrest of two sisters who, according to investigators, portrayed themselves on social media as animal lovers and rescuers.
The case began when an Atlanta Police SWAT team executed a search warrant at a home for an unrelated investigation.
That’s when officers say they discovered dozens of animals living in deplorable conditions.
Investigators told Channel 2’s Michael Seiden that one of the most troubling scenes involved nine puppies crammed into a cage inside a bathtub surrounded by urine and feces.
According to arrest affidavits, officers removed 30 animals and 14 fish from the home, including dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles and a sugar glider.
Police say the sugar glider was found tethered so tightly to a Louis Vuitton purse that it could barely move.

Investigators also shared photos showing what they described as severely neglected animals, including a mother dog whose ribs were clearly visible.
Atlanta police identified the suspects as sisters Senaya Carter and Janaya Carter, 22.
The sisters now face 19 counts of animal cruelty.
Authorities say all of the animals have been turned over to Fulton County Animal Services, where they are receiving medical care and treatment.
Officials hope many of the animals will eventually be healthy enough to be adopted into permanent homes.
Channel 2 Action News has reached out to both sisters for comment but has not received a response.
