The actress, who rose to global fame starring in “The Little Mermaid,” is back on the big screen in a new romantic comedy, “You, Me and Tuscany.”

Bailey, who was raised in Mableton, said she’s excited for audiences to see her take on more mature roles that reflect where she is in life.

“I feel like I’m in my grown woman era right now,” Bailey said. “I just turned 26… I have a two-year-old. I’m like, OK, let’s start playing more grown roles and just roles that reflect the time I’m in my life right now.”

In the film, Bailey plays Anna, a young woman who grew up in Atlanta before moving to New York with her mother to pursue her dream of becoming a chef.

The story takes a romantic turn when she meets her co-star, Regé-Jean Page, known for his breakout role in “Bridgerton.”

Bailey says she sees parts of herself in her character but also admires Anna’s boldness.

“A lot of Anna is like me,” she said. “She’s a little bit more brave… a lot more impulsive than I am. But I want to adopt some of that fieriness from her because it led her somewhere wonderful in love.”

Producer Will Packer, an Atlanta native and minority owner of the Atlanta Falcons, said Bailey was always his top choice for the role.

“Once she said that she was in, we were off to the races,” Packer said.

Filmed in the rolling hills of Tuscany, the romantic comedy blends humor, heart, and a love story set far from Bailey’s Atlanta roots.

“You, Me and Tuscany” hits theaters April 10.
