ATLANTA — Wellstar Health System announced last week that over 90% of people currently being treated at their metro Atlanta hospitals are unvaccinated.
Officials said Sunday that 95% of the people on ventilators are unvaccinated.
Wellstar, which runs 12 medical facilities in metro Atlanta, said that as of Aug. 22, it is caring for 602 COVID-19 patients, 547 of them who have not been vaccinated (90%). That’s a 93% increase in patients in just three days.

Of the 146 who are in the ICU, 136 (93%) are unvaccinated. Of the 93 people on ventilators, 88 (95%) are unvaccinated.

COVID-19 patients account for 28% of all hospitalization in Georgia. In far southeast Georgia, COVID-19 patients account for nearly 53% of hospitalizations.
Just 42% of Georgians have been fully vaccinated.

On Wednesday, Piedmont Healthcare released data from their 14 hospitals in metro Atlanta as of Aug. 13.

According to Piedmont, 91.6% of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated. At least 96.7% of ICU patients are unvaccinated and 97.4% of patients on ventilators are unvaccinated.
