ATLANTA — A man accused of killing a stranger is heading to prison after being convicted of murder.
Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne spoke with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after Javon Williams was convicted of the 2022 murder of Zicorey Kenner.
Williams claimed self-defense and cryptically said he felt like he was in another dimension during the shooting.

“Truth is, we cannot give the public a good reason why this young man lost his life on this day,” Willis said.
In December 2022, security video captured Kenner at a convenience store picking up snacks for his mother on her birthday, but he would never make it home to her.
Another customer in the store, Williams, was caught on camera following Kenner out of the store. Security video from an apartment complex caught Williams gunning down Kenner from a distance, said Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Shaniqua Christian.
“He leaves out, and Javon is a minute behind him on this two minute walk. By the time he gets here, Javon Williams has closed the gap,” Christian said.
Prosecutors say Williams was more than 50 to 60 feet away from Kenner when he fired the fatal shot.
“He claimed that he heard Zicorey say, ‘If you come back into the apartments, I’m gonna kill you.’ It’s not shown on video,” Christian said.

Christian says that after the shooting, Williams ran by the fatally wounded victim. Kenner lived about a week after that.
Williams was identified quickly but remained on the run for more than a year before being arrested on an unrelated crime in Cobb County in December 2023.
“When I cross examined him, asking him why he shot at Zicorey, he responded that he was in a different dimension. And so we used that in our closing argument that the dimension that this defendant lives in is a dangerous dimension,” Senior Assistant District Attorney Jacelynn Porter said.
After being found guilty in late July, Williams was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole plus an additional five years.
Winne reached out to a spokesperson for the public defenders who said that while a jury has rendered a verdict, the legal process is not over.
Williams’ attorneys have filed a motion for a new trial.
