Step into the wizarding world with Harry Potter exhibition now open in Atlanta

ATLANTA — You enter through a doorway into another world. A Wizarding World.

“My first son was quite the reader. So we read the books together,” Tom Zaller said.

More than 500 million copies of the Harry Potter have been sold, and the films have grossed close to $8 billion worldwide. Now Harry Potter: The Exhibition has come to downtown Atlanta that includes some of the phenomenon’s greatest moments.

“We get the luxury of being able to celebrate those moments. A lot of people say it feels just like you’re there,” Zaller said.

He’s the producer who has taken this show on the road. There’s 38,000 square feet of memorabilia, movie costumes and props. Also a few dozen interactive experiences made possible by a wristband. A magical wristband, of course.

“It’s personalized. You tap it and your name pops up on the Marauder’s Map,” Zaller said.

The magic comes in handy in Potions class or while playing a game of Quidditch. You can sit in Hagrid’s giant chair, climb into Harry’s tiny cupboard under the stairs and experience the magic of the Great Hall of Hogwarts Castle. Atlanta is the exhibition’s second stop on a coast to coast tour. It started in Philly where it drew half a million visitors.

“They are all so excited when they come in here, and they leave happy.” Zaller said.

Harry Potter: The Exhibition will be in town for a couple of months. Tickets are available online. Wizarding World fans are encouraged to dress the part, and of course, wands are encouraged.
